Product design is the process of creating and improving products or articles with regard to their functional purpose, ergonomics, visual appearance and consumer properties. Product design encompasses various aspects of human life, including the many objects with which we interact. The main goal of product design is to develop products that not only fulfilled their purpose functionally, but also were user-friendly, aesthetically pleasing, and competitive in the marketplace. It is important to note that sometimes the design of the finished product affects the functioning no less than the development of the software and hardware part. Therefore, it is not recommended to separate these two phases and hand them over to different contractors for implementation. When engineering and product design processes are separated, it is quite often necessary to return the product design process to the previous phases.
